Plymouth Prowler "Angie"

The Plymouth Prowler "Angie" represents the rebirth of the hot rod, blending classic aesthetics with the conveniences of modern vehicles. Designed by Chrysler engineers with complete creative freedom, the Prowler pays homage to the 1930s-era hot rods. Inspired by Chrysler’s design director Thomas C. Gale’s passion for vintage cars, particularly his 1932 Ford, the Prowler emerged as a follow-up show-stopper to the Dodge Viper. The project also drew from a thesis by Chip Foose at the Art Center of Design, initially conceived as a coupe and later modified into a roadster.
One of the Prowler’s most striking features is its open, Indy racer-style front wheels. Under the hood, the Prowler is powered by a 3.5L Chrysler SOHC V6 engine, initially producing 214 hp and later upgraded to an aluminum-block version with 253 hp for the 1999 model year. Both engine versions are paired with a four-speed Autostick automatic transmission. This setup includes a torque tube connecting the engine to the rear-located transmission, similar to the arrangements in the Corvette C5, Porsche 944, and Alfa Romeo 75, achieving a balanced 50-50 front-rear weight distribution.
The Prowler’s construction prominently features aluminum, with many parts adhesively bonded, particularly in the chassis. The body was produced in Shadyside, Ohio, and the final assembly was carried out by hand at the Conner Avenue Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan. Despite some criticism for its V6 engine, the Prowler’s light weight and high-output engine deliver impressive acceleration. The Plymouth Prowler "Angie" is perfect for photo shoots, special events, or a memorable driving experience. Embrace the spirit of a bygone era with the reliability and performance of modern engineering.
